Stairway to Heaven
We are very lucky at Southdown to have clients like Green Oak Carpentry who are the very top of their game. People who are not only skilled and equipped to help some really ambitious projects become a reality, but who go that extra step further and really care about the work they do.
This was very much the case at Farlington, Sussex yesterday when we were asked to assist with shifting the striking wooden structure crafted by ‘Solutions in Wood’ titled ‘Stairway to Heaven’.
The striking geometry and bold form designed by Arboreal Architecture and handmade in teak had to bolted to a custom made steel cradle so we could safely crane it aboard Peter Simms 66 t/m FASSI – M.A.N. It was hauled by road and skated into workshops in Bosham for the next phase of the project. Remarkable details like the reverse steps in the lower edge of the form, the names carved in the flanks and the 173 portals in the top to represent the souls lost in the tragedy made this much more than just another bumping job.
