Two Tardis’ Spotted In Camden?
If you were passing a large anonymous looking building on Camden Road on the morning of the 19th January and happened to have peered over the parapet wall just by the canal you may have wondered whether the ‘Doctor’ had doubled up and gone supersized… or if the authorities had been experimenting with Time. And. Relative Distance. In. Space transportation and either of these was the explanation for the two mysterious large blue boxes that had miraculously appeared overnight?
But be assured it wasn’t the work of any ‘Timelords’ or black-ops budget, but the nonetheless impressive incarnations of drivers Carl Somner (photos courtesy off) and his SCANIA 8×4 + 36 t/m P.M with Pete Sims (main lifter) and his MAN + FASSI 66 t/m crane.
In fact it was nothing more other-worldly than the price of London office/storage space that had the client opt to turn a wasted area into the site for a couple of augmented security 20 foot ISO stores to put constabulary related knick-knacks in.
Access was complicated by the fact that only one lane of Camden road could be closed even with a midnight drop time, meaning siting the big crane on the footway in and around various subterranean issues, plus a road closure from TFL and Traffic Management had to be organised.
The pictures do demonstrate very well the container lifters in action – saving men having to leave the safety of the ground to connect and disconnect tackle, plus of course the skills of operators for this job requiring millimetre perfect positioning.
Needless to say, apart from being ffffreezing that night, it went without a hitch well within the 2 hour window we were given.
